My work
As an artist, I use expressive markmaking to create contemporary realism. I work by building up thin and thick layers of acrylic paint in order to show detail, texture and the effect of light on what I’m painting. Brushes, palette knives, cloths, spray bottles, thumbs, fingers and lots of water are all used in the process. For me, painting is about showing people what I see and how I see, bringing an image to life for others so that they can appreciate and understand that particular moment in time.
I’m lucky to live in Hampshire with amazing coast and countryside nearby to inspire me. I frequently paint landscapes and seascapes, often with people a key part of the scene. I paint portraits and find it crucial to capture a natural expression or emotion. I also paint still life – again so that I can show a particular play of light or atmosphere on the objects.
I am a qualified Drawing and Talking Independent Practitioner and am delighted to be able to offer Emotional Wellbeing Support Programmes to children over 5, teens and adults in the Fareham area.
I enjoy sharing my skills and knowledge with adults and children and can arrange workshops and sessions to suit schools, community groups, those in residential or day services and so on. I work in a person-centred way so that it is fun, engaging and accessible for everyone. Find out about forthcoming classes and workshops here.
I am also available for commissions and will work with you to make sure the final painting is something to treasure for years to come. Please feel free to get in touch and chat your ideas through.
My paintings are available to buy, with some works also available as fine art prints or greetings cards. Please visit the Looking to buy page to find out how to purchase my work.
If you would like any further information about my work, workshops or commissions, please email me, ring me on 07582 537 151 or get in touch.
Mostly self taught, painting, drawing and taking photographs have long been an important part of my life. I changed career and started working full time creatively in June 2012. I am based near Fareham in Hampshire.
